Need I say more
Music has always been a whisper of the soul to me, a gateway to feelings that words can never fully capture. Ever since I was a child, I found solace in songs that flowed through my body like a warm current. Sometimes it was a gentle touch that brought tears, sometimes a fiery force that made my heart dance. I remember as a child repeating a song over and over again, enchanted by the goosebumps that enveloped me and the energy that consumed me completely.
The music of the past carried a magic that was almost tangible. The deep bass, the screeching strings of a guitar, the rhythmic trembling of drums — every sound vibrated in my fibers and touched my heart. The song “Alone” was on repeat, but when my youngest daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, the song took on a new, deeper meaning. The singer screamed her emotions, and I cried with her, my soul laid bare, a raw dance of grief and love.
In the 80s and 90s, music still breathed emotion. The warm sounds of synthesizers, the rich layers of instruments, tuned to the heart rate. That music touched you deeply, made you feel. Today, a lot of music seems to have lost that feeling, and that is why I want to pass on that musical heritage to our children. In the past, we danced with heart and soul. With friends, we lost ourselves in the music, dancing the stars from the sky, without a care in the world. We were the party, fully present in love and freedom. Even in the kitchen, the most beautiful parties arose: singing, laughing, dancing, hugging each other to a beautiful song. "How I love you!" we whispered a thousand times, with hearts overflowing with love.
Everyone found their place: one shone on the stairs, the other laughed quietly along. But together we formed a living mosaic of joy. We shared special songs, especially in times of loss. Songs became comfort, a hold. Unconsciously we choose music that resonates with our hearts, and discovering why that one song touches us is like a journey inward.
A song like "Jeanny" by Falco cut deep into my soul. As a little girl I felt the melancholy and the drama. I sat quietly in my room, let the words flow through me, and felt the message in my bones. "When the Lady Smiles" by Golden Earring carried the same inexplicable intensity. Back then, video clips on TV were the only windows to that musical world. I still remember how Michael Jackson's "Thriller" traumatized me, the tension of that moment, the whole of the Netherlands waiting breathlessly on Sunday evening. That memory is etched in my heart.
Music is woven into our lives, in sorrow, in love, in beauty. “The Final Countdown” played endlessly not only from my speakers, but also at the funeral of a dear friend’s father. Music tells stories — of heartbreak, loss, drama, but also of pure beauty and unvarnished truth. We often think of love as synonymous with pain, but music teaches us that love is also light and joy.
The magic of music lies in its structure. Sound waves that gently carry us away and eventually make us disappear in a wave of power and emotion. In that structure, in that crescendo, lies the true magic. For me, music remains a source of comfort, of strength, of pure expression. Music is a breath of the soul, a dance of the heart. It is the melody of life — and how beautiful it is to be allowed to move with it.
Tip for a Meaningful Evening:
Take the time to delve into your own past. Your taste in music tells your personal story. Put on a playlist with songs that were dear to you when you were younger and let yourself be taken on a journey through your memories.
Walk the paths you have chosen before, feel what comes up in you, and enjoy the emotions that music can evoke. This not only brings pleasure, but also helps you get closer to yourself. Make it personal and adjust it to what you need
And if you pick something from my playlist and have a nice evening with it, that's a bonus
